One of the oldest trade routes in Kyiv is the Brest-Litovsk highway. Back in the 19th century, this road was an important link in the new strategic route from Kyiv to Kovel – through Zhytomyr.
Along this route in the 40s of the XIX century. every 20-30 km new, stone post offices or horse post offices were built. They were built in the neo-Gothic style and were planned in the same way: a rectangular courtyard, in the center – the facade to the tract – the building of the station, to the right of it – the entrance gate, to the left – the exit. Along the perimeter of the spacious yard were one-story coachman’s, carriage, stable, barn, fodder, hotel, and in the middle of the yard – a well equipped with a watering hole for horses.
Ordinary merchants, foreign travelers, as well as representatives of the aristocracy, whose way passed through the Brest-Litovsk highway, stopped at these stations to regain strength.
A touch of Polish culture…
Among the foreigners of that time, of course, were many Poles. The share of Poles among the population of the Right Bank of Ukraine was up to 6% in the middle of the XIX century. This was facilitated by the responses of the turbulent Ukrainian-Polish history, and the fact that in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, after the Polish-Turkish war, Poles moved on masse to Ukrainian lands in search of a better life. Since then, Polish culture has become organically rooted in hospitable Ukraine: we are still ready to dance when we hear the famous Polka, and enjoy Polish cuisine – hearty meat dishes, incredible pies and rich soups…
Following the tradition of hospitality, laid down two centuries ago – and was built restaurant and hotel complex KRAKOW, built, like the post offices of the 19th century in the neo-Gothic style. Here the traveler can eat in a restaurant, and spend the night in a comfortable hotel, and steam in a modern sauna, dance in a cozy pub to incendiary live music, and just – enjoy the beautiful air, imbued with the healing aroma of pine needles.
A touch of Polish cuisine…
Polish cuisine is very rich, as it has been influenced by both Western and Eastern Europe. The cuisine of the KRAKOW restaurant is, of course, full of Polish dishes. Legendary bigos, Krakow sausages, many soups, cheese products, pickles. But most old dishes are, of course, meat. However, following modern trends, many vegetable dishes have appeared on the menu of Poles and, consequently, on the menu of the KRAKOW restaurant, so vegetarians will also have something to eat here!
However, in addition to the cuisine, some of which are known all over the world, Poles are famous for their love of beer. Beer traditions of Poles have their roots in the tenth century – as evidenced by records in the chronicles of chroniclers. Given this feature – at the restaurant and hotel complex KRAKOW was opened a Polish pub Bigos, where all guests can enjoy the wonderful taste of a drunken drink, Polish snacks, and, of course, – live music!
